Dennison Men's Clothiers ad (c. 1960s), read by overnight deejay Charlie Greer on 77 WABC. Always loved hearing those ads for the now-defunct store (Route 22, Union, New Jersey) whenever I listened to my transistor radio under the covers in the middle of the night. The ads, always tongue-twisters, were written in "iambic pentameter." (Yeah, I had to look it up too.)
The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, better known as A & P - The publication Woman's Day was launched by A & P in 1937. Originally sold exclusively at A & P stores, Woman's Day was purchased by an independent publisher in the mid-1950s, and no longer has any connection to the supermarket chain.
If you EVER go to Maine and happen to be driving on Route 1 in Kittery, you HAVE to stop at this store! It opened back in the 80's, if I remember right, and I'd get some old-fashioned candies there. The store is an amazing treasure trove of hard-to-find candies! They have a website, too. And, no, I do not get paid to advertise, I just like to tell folks about a good thing.
