Teaching in Room 6: Checking in Homework....student-led and monitored

I then explain that if they forget to complete a homework assignment, they must independently go to the book, turn to their tabbed section, and record the date, the assignment, their excuse, and complete their assignment.

Tonya's Treats for Teachers: Instant Data idea:) plus Font Friday

Divide the inside of a file folder into boxes that are slightly larger than small sticky notes. Write students' names in the boxes in alphabetical order, one name per box. Whenever you want to make a note about a student's progress, jot the information on a sticky note and then place it in the appropriate box. Periodically move the sticky notes to students' assessment folders. You'll have valuable information at your fingertips when it's time to prepare report cards.

Homework box helper - make these to pass out at open house

Chit chat chart- pull a square of the chart when a child is talking while the teacher is talking. If all 3 are pulled lose time at recess...............good for a chatty class

Student of the day activity - could do for 1st 20 days or so... Or just on Fridays...

Absent Bin…an easy way to make students responsible for getting make-up work. Great idea!  Any extra copies go to the “extra copies” bin by the door.  This might make for a more independent classroom though!

FREE Homework Incentive~ When the entire class completes a homework assignment on time, hang up one flag. With the letters in "homework" and a starting and ending decorative flag, there are 10 flags in all. When the banner is complete, give the class extra recess, a homework pass,or whatever incentive works for your classroom. The toughest part of this plan-- laminating the reusable flag pennants. Great, new twist on a tried-and-true idea!

Managing Middle Schoolers: After some years of experience, and a lot of trial and error, I finally feel like I can teach middle schoolers. I might go as far to say I actually love teaching middle schoolers.

"Brain Sprinkles" I took an empty spice container, created a cute label, then filled the container with beads and glitter. I shake the container over their heads, and...boom! They are revitalized. Sometimes I use them on myself. I love to give everyone brain sprinkles right before a test. Some even ask if I can shake a little extra sprinkles for them!
