Great way to teach finding evidence from the text. After reading a book together as a class come up with an argument (ex. Julius is the Baby of the World) and have each class member look through the text to find and cite statements that support this argument. Then go through them as a class and talk about which statements supported the argument and which didn't.
This is a 20 day reading workshop unit which uses books by Kevin Henkes to examine characters and theme. It is aligned with CCSS and provides day by day lesson plans, reading extension worksheets and cooperative learning activities.
