The Rainbow snail, Polymita picta. This animal is considered to be one of the world's most beautiful land snails due to the colors of its shell. The species Polymita picta is endemic to Cuba and it is a natural and cultural symbol of one of its cities, Baracoa. It lives in trees and bushes, feeding on fungi and lichens that grow on them, but without eating its leaves or stems. Polymita is derived from Greek and means many stripes; Picta is derived from Latin and means painted.
