High Resolution Photograph Of The Sun’s Surface ... ok, not cool, temperature-wise.

Jet Streams Similar to the needle spikes rising from the inner surface of the sun the chromosphere at speeds of jet aircraft in excess of 48 000 km / h. Above the surface can be up to 60,000 of these “needles”. Duration of up to 5 minutes

Ring of Fire -- Solar Eruption on the Surface of the Sun

Eruption on the Sun :Every 10 second the atmospheric imaging assembly (AIA) of NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory takes hi res photos of the cun's corona. This photo was taken on 3/10/10.

On August 31, 2012 the Sun threw a major tantrum. It started with a vast arc of material towering over its surface, a stream of plasma flowing between two sunspots. Sometimes these collapse back down to the Suns surface, but this one exploded, blasting hundreds of millions of tons of material out into space. SDO captured this ridiculously awesome picture of the arc just before it erupted!

Sun activity, Oct. 22, 2011. Magnetic field lines, when these break we get flares or CME's

Taken by Prosper Henry, 1885. This photograph of the Ring Nebula in the constellation Lyra shows but a three-degree section of the firmament, 1,956 light-years from earth. Once a star similar to our own sun, the nebula was formed when the star exploded, releasing gasses from its outer shell into space.

The last transit of Venus took place on 5 and 6 June 2012, and it was the last Venus transit of the 21st century. Venus transits are very rare events. The next one will be December 10–11, 2117.

The Earth at Night - Nothing demonstrates population and wealth like the warm glow of cheap electricity from space. Also, check out the Russian equivalent of manifest destiny...not quite as comprehensive as the American version, but then California is a lot nicer than Siberia.

An incredibly stunning solar flare erupted from the sun’s surface, throwing charged particles and searing plasma millions of miles out into space on Apr. 16. NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory captured data from the flare — a medium-sized M-class event — which was turned into a movie by Steele Hill, media specialist at the Goddard Space Flight Center. The blast was not directed at the Earth and is unlikely to hit any of the planets in our solar system.

Inside the Cupola, NASA astronaut Chris Cassidy, an Expedition 36 flight engineer, uses a 400mm lens on a digital still camera to photograph a target of opportunity on Earth some 250 miles below him and the International Space Station. Cassidy has been aboard the orbital outpost since late March and will continue his stay into September.
