This is the highest resolution image of Earth ever made, 121 megapixels. That’s an amazing 0.62 miles per pixel. It was taken by Russia’s latest weather satellite, the Electro-L, which is orbiting Earth on a geostationary orbit 36,000 kilometers above the equator, sending photographs of the entire planet every 30 minutes.

Uranus is the third largest planet in our Solar System. Uranus has nine major rings and 27 known moons. This image, taken by the Hubble Space Telescope in infrared reveals cloud structures not normally visible. Methane gas in the upper atmosphere absorbs red light, giving the planet its blue-green color. Uranus is spinning on its side, probably because of a collision with a large object early in the Solar System's history.

Diamond Planet. Credit: Swinburne Astronomy Productions. A Jupiter-mass planet orbiting the newly discovered pulsar PSR J1719-1438 is likely one gigantic diamond. The planet's ultra-high pressure has caused the carbon within it to crystallize into diamond. And the weirdness doesn't stop there. The planet was probably once a star, but most of its mass was sucked off by its tiny pulsar companion, which is spinning at a rate of 10,000 revolutions per minute. It is 4,000 light-years from Earth.
