"The Never Ending Story", Michael Ende - After years of requesting it for Christmas, my mum finally tracked down for me the version of this book that I so coveted. It is printed in red and green ink to differentiate between the action that takes place in the story, and the story within the story. Quite a thing of beauty!
Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor. Inspired by the family stories Taylor grew up on, the book is often chosen and taught for its searing portrait of the racist persecution endemic to the Depression-era South, but Cassie Logan is more than just an eyewitness to historical events. She's a fierce, resourceful, and passionate character in her own right, so real that you can't help but feel her pain, helplessness, defiance, and love for her family as your own.
What young girl didn't read this or see the movie? sniff sniff sniff..... And I hate to tell you this Erich Segal, but love does mean you have to say you are sorry sometimes. What a load of crap that saying turned out to be!
Fancy Nancy is Splendiferous! Lots of wonderful vocabulary with the Queen of Everything. Great book to use to teach about synonyms or ways to make your writing more interesting by using some fancy words.
