I love making my own homemade laundry powder. It is less expensive and works just as great as store-brands. Plus the homemade version doesn't make my skin itch. This is a blog post I did about homemade laundry powder awhile ago. It's easy to make and another "easy on the wallet" type of project ;)

-Homemade Liquid Hand Soap- 3 bars soap 6 Cups water grate soap (or microwave Dove 'till it falls apart), boil with water in pot until well mixed, put in container(s) to cool, let sit for 24 hrs until it's the right consistency. Ta da!
