Despite its name, the maned wolf is not a wolf at all, nor is it a fox, coyote, or dog. It is the only member of the Chrysocyon genus, making it a truly unique animal, not closely related to any other living canid. One hypothesis for this is that the maned wolf is the last surviving species of the Pleistocene Extinction, which wiped out all other large canids from the continent. Fascinating...

Coy-Wolf. A strain of wolves in Canada was able to mate successfully with both coyotes and other strains of wolf, and a hybrid was created that now ranges over the east coast of Canada and the US. It is a highly adaptable, freakishly intelligent canid, that lives in cities and suburbs without people even being aware it is among them.

This creature has fascinated me since I was a kid! I love the wolf of any color but this Maned Wolf has the others beat! Very distinctive animal!
