I did this as an interactive bulletin board in our hallway. The kids loved it! I would check it every couple of days and if I noticed some wrong synonyms, I'd rerun through my mini lesson and have a student correct it.

Synonym rolls: You pass out cinnamon roll shapes to your students (or they make their own depending on grade level), and they put in the middle a “boring” word. Then, on the spiral around the synonym roll, they write synonyms they could use to replace it. Personally, I would laminate these, keep them in a roll pan or file to let students sift through them while trying to write. As I student, I was always looking for synonyms to spice up my writing. This is a great idea for students.
