    Moundsville West Virginia Penitentiary. 1 of 5 top "scariest" abandoned prisons in the world. (!all 5 are in the u.s.a.!) I want to go back at Halloween because they have a haunted house that is supposed to be really scary !

This abandoned beauty in New Orleans is the result of Hurricane Katrina and the floods. Very sad. It was obviously an incredible home. did old chimney work? Why were there three hearth-looking holes? Did fires on three floors share the same chimney? That doesn't sound right. Anyone know?

There is an eeriness that permeates when we find spaces that look like the original inhabitants might come back at any moment.

I've often wondered how this could happen. How could a place so carefully, masterfully crafted be abandoned. Forgotten.
