New strain of dulse seaweed (Palmaria mollis) tastes like bacon, grows faster than the wild stuff. Promising for large-scale aquaculture, grown to feed humans or possibly other animals. Seaweed adds an umami flavor, and can be a good source of protein and minerals.
Seaweed is widely considered to be a health food. Bacon, on the other hand, isn't. There may yet be hope for pork belly lovers around the world, however. Scientists have patented a lab-bred strain of dulce seaweed, that they claim has "a strong bacon flavor" when fried.
"Dulse is a super-food, with twice the nutritional value of kale," Oregon State University researchers have patented a new strain of a succulent red marine algae called dulse that grows extraordinarily quickly, is packed full of protein and tastes like bacon!

Fruit and Veggie Seasons
finally--after years of living in Southern California near a Costco, I've never been aware of what's actually IN season... Eat seasonably
Eating with the seasons when fruits and veggies are at their best (and most inexpensive!) I never know what's in season!
Eat Seasonably, eat healthy.
Eat seasonably: Not only does fresh, seasonal food taste better, it is better for you too! Fresh produce contains more vitamins and minerals than food that is grown in hothouses, picked prematurely, refrigerated and then shipped to your local market. Plus it is typically more affordable- when produce is in season locally, the relative abundance of the crop usually makes it less expensive. #produce #seasonal #eatlocal #health #wellness

🍓WHERE IN THE WORLD IS YOUR FOOD FROM?🍓 It seems that in our busy life of fast food and convenience, many people have become so disconnected from their food, they don’t know where their food actually comes from (or made of!). This is the first article in a series to help kids understand more about our food system. Today we’re mapping our fruits and vegetables: with a little research in the supermarket, the kids are discovering where our food was grown and how long it traveled to get here!
This is a great activity to help kids become more culturally aware and learn more about how our food system works around the world. It's also a great geography lesson and real world lesson about buying local and in season,
