Crawford about 1927. She learned the ropes and had an indefinable something on screen that gave her star quality. She credited this to paying attention, being dedicated and grasping each and every opportunity that presented itself. Early on she determined to become a good actress and credited doing so not only to actors and directors but to lighting technicians and grips.

Joan Crawford from Rain (1932) born Lucille Fay LeSueur, was an American actress in film, television and theatre. Starting as a dancer in traveling theatrical companies before debuting on Broadway, Crawford signed a contract by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1925. Initially frustrated by the size and quality of her parts, Crawford began a campaign of self-publicity and became nationally known as a flapper by the end of the 1920s.

1932 photo by George Hurrell, of Joan Crawford, born 1905 in San Antonio, Texas. By late 1920’s Crawford was a big movie star and the highest paid women in the U.S.. She was the epitome of the word "movie star", and possessed a genuine glamour that allowed her star to shine for over 50 years. An unflattering book, written by her adopted daughter, tainted her personal image. Regardless of this, she was a great actress and personality who deserves continued recognition. She died on May 10, 1977.
