    IDEA FOR PRACTICE COUNTING PROJECT...assign a number for each child and have them choose and glue corresponding number of objects. Have them write 2-3 numbers to choose answers from. Exchange with a friend and practice counting!

    This is a great activity because it builds the muscle control needed to learn to write by holding a paint brush, they get practice recognizing letters, plus it is better for toddlers and preschoolers to write, draw, or paint standing up because they will have more muscle control.

    Feed the frog! Using tweezers or tongs will help your toddler or preschooler develop the fine motor skills needed for using scissors and writing! What a fun activity that uses materials you may already have at home! "Flies" can be made from pom poms or large beads or whatever you wish!

    I loved doing this when I was learning how to read and write! Have the child say the individual letters as they trace them in the salt/cornmeal, and you're addressing all three learning styles: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic.

    Draw a letter on a pin board and have children push the pins in correct order to form the letters. (Could write numbers and even draw arrows to show letter formation sequence.) Great for fine motor skill development, but also for remembering the path of motion for each letter.
