Massive Undulating Styrofoam Cup Cloud - American artist Tara Donovan

  • John Marcel

Tara Donovan, "Untitled (Styrofoam Cups)", 2003. Installation view, Ace Gallery, Los Angeles, 2005.

  • Sergio Scotta

Cloud-like clusters of styrofoam cups create amazingly organic undulating surfaces in this piece titled Styrofoam Cup Sculpture by artist Tara Donovan. Measuring twenty feet wide and six feet deep, light passes through it as a soft, diffused glow with rings of darkness created by the walls of the cups. Her works incorporate seemingly banal materials to create surprising and complex sculptures which serve to reinterpret how we see the everyday things which fill our lives

Tara Donovan is one of the few sculptors/mixed media artists that immediately impresses you. It leaves you speachless to see how she transforms drinking straws and styroform cups into epic installations. I was lucky enough to see her work in Des Moines and it's more stunning in person.
