The Story of My Life by Helen Keller When she was 19 months old, Helen Keller (1880-1968) suffered a severe illness that left her blind and deaf. Not long after, she also became mute. Her tenacious struggle to overcome these handicaps-with the help of her inspired teacher, Anne Sullivan-is one of the great stories of human courage and dedication. Beach reading essential. One of my mother's favorite books... I can still see it lying on the back of the sofa open waiting for her to pick it back up again.
This is THE Book definitely worth reading *****Publication Date: 1966**** "This is a world where sex is a success weapon, where love is the smiling mask of hate, where slipping youth and fading beauty are ever-present specters. It is a world where the magic tickets to peace or oblivion are 'dolls' - the insider's word for pills - pep pills, sleeping pills, ...and pills to chase the truth away." .. one of my favorites that I reread a few times!
Jacqueline Susann's Valley of the Dolls. The "adult" book we all read in high school.
Valley of the Dolls, how shocking this book and the movie were at the time.

The Sun Also Rises, 1926 novel by American Ernest Hemingway. A group of American & British expatriates travel from Paris to Festival of San Fermín in Pamplona to watch running of bulls and bullfights. An early & enduring modernist novel. Received mixed reviews. Recognized as Hemingway's greatest work", "his most important novel".
I was a student library aide in elementary high school. Fell in love with Hemingway about 9th grade and went thru a period of intense admiration for his lifestyle, ex-pat status, bullfighting in Spain, etc... The Sun Also Rises, Ernest Hemingway.

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, is a fantastic tale of cruelty, uncontrollable passion, obsession, freedom, entrapment and revenge. it is not infact a love story, but rather one of a tortured soul, driven mad by love, so much that the result is vengence towards all those in the novel.
Wuthering Heights-- Emily Bronte "I lingered near them neath that benign sky, watched the moths fluttering through the heath and the harebells, and wondered how anyone could imagine unquiet slumbers for the sleepers in that quiet earth." I read this for fun as a girl and had to memorize the dramatic last line. Did I get it right?
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. Her only novel is a tale of cruelty, uncontrollable passion, obsession, freedom, entrapment and revenge. No wonder it is one of the greatest novels of all time!

THE SECRET by Rhonda Byrne Kindle Edition @ Amazon Change your thoughts - change your life. Use The Law of Attraction to bring positivity to your world.
The Secret: Rhonda Byrne. Though I don't agree with everything in this book, it opened my eyes to the Law of Attraction, which changed my life significantly for the better
"Be grateful for what you have now. As you begin to think about all the things in your life you are grateful for, you will be amazed at the never ending thoughts that come back to you of more things to be grateful for. You have to make a start, and then the law of attraction will receive those grateful thoughts and give you more just like them." -- Rhonda Byrne in The Secret
"The Secret" is a must read book! It's about using the secret in every aspect of your life such as health, financially, relationships, happiness, overcoming tribulations, & tapping w/ in your inner self. Also gaining wisdom from modern day teachers who achieved health, wealth, & happiness. "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrnes!
The book The Secret by Rhonda Byrnes holds excellent theory on the Law of Attraction but it also lacks important aspects in changing your mindset and increasing your perseverance in order to succeed.
The Secret is my favorite book of all time. It breaks down briefly and explains the law of attraction. It not only change my life in a positive way but changed my writing as will. It taught me when being literate to think about what sort of reader or thoughts or feelings I am attracting when I write my papers or essays or responses, and also, how to dictate and control what responses and feelings I attract or repel.
The Secret Book is not just a book "worth reading" - it is a "must-read!"

Worth Reading, High School, Books Worth, Alice, Favorite Books, Teens, Drug
Go Ask Alice is a diary of a girl dealing with a lot of problems in high school. She deals with depression, boyfriends, running away, family issues, and drugs. The sad thing is many teens go through this experience all the time. Reading this book makes you want to pay more attention to the people around you.
Go Ask Alice by Anonymous. I read this my freshman year of high school and can honestly say it helped me find my true self. Pretty damn depressing, but worth reading. Definitely puts life in perspective.
Go Ask Alice - read this book at least 20 times as a teen and will recommend my kids reading it in high school!
Go ask Alice / Anonymous - A deep, enriching book about a teenager's fight with an addiction to LSD. Every teen and adult should read this book at least twice; my stepmother made me read it at fourteen, and not only was I forever discouraged from experimenting with LSD, but it also became one of my very favorite books of all time.
Go Ask Alice, Anonymous. Honest, controversial and engaging for all teens tempted by the allure of drugs. A visceral portrayal of a teen's descent into addiction.
Reread: Go Ask Alice Author: Anonymous First published: 1971 While its authenticity as a real teen’s diary has been debunked, the haunting entries depicting an anonymous teen’s descent into drug addiction are an all-too-true cautionary tale.

"...In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." The Grapes of Wrath is one of my favorite books and John Steinbeck one of my favorite authors. I also very much enjoyed his book, Travels with Charlie.
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck. One of my favorite books of all time. Amazing look into life during the Great Depression.
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck - Required reading in school - Also saw the movie in school "Classic"
The Grapes of Wrath, by John Steinbeck - 1939. Adapted to film in 1940, directed by John Ford. Henry Fonda portrayed the lead character, Tom Joad. Great read and movie!
This week is Freedom to Read Week and Feb. 27 is the birthday of one of the most socially concious of American writers, John Steinbeck. "Grapes of Wrath", one of the greatest American novels and the most trenchant depiction of the Great Depression and the plight of the American farmer in the Dust Bowl. It was released 75 years ago, in 1939, and made into a celebrated Hollywood movie in 1940.
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck is still my favorite book of all time. In 1962, Steinbeck won the Nobel Prize for literature for his "realistic and imaginative writing, combining as it does sympathetic humor and keen social perception." On the day of the announcement (Oct. 25) when he was asked by a reporter at a press conference given by his publisher, if he thought he deserved the Nobel, he said: "Frankly, no."[
The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck One of my all time favorite books.

As I Lay Dying, by William Faulkner Because the man's cold brilliance enabled him to make the line "My mother is a fish," into a chapter in itself.
As I Lay Dying is a novel by the American author William Faulkner. He claimed to have written the novel in six weeks and that he did not change a word of it. Faulkner wrote it while working at a power plant, published in 1930, and described by Faulkner as a "tour-de-force." It is Faulkner's fifth novel and consistently ranked among the best novels of 20th century literature.

Ann Rule is by far one of my favorite authors. She writes true crime stories. There is always a layout of photos in each book of the actual people involved, both criminals and victims.
