Circus Trees, Bonfante Gardens (now known as Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park). The Circus Trees were originally grown and created by Axel Erlandson since 1928. There are 25 Circus Trees still alive today. This one is the Basket Tree. These trees represent one of the most visible demonstrations of the love of nature by man—first to create and nourish, then to maintain, and finally to preserve and cherish these stunning creatures.

Axel Erlandson Circus Trees | In the early 1900s, Swedish tree sculptor Axel Erlandson planted “The Basket Tree.” Actually, this is a bit of a misnomer, as it is a collection of six different Sycamore trees that have been grafted together. In the late 1940s, Erlandson opened a roadside oddity attraction containing 20-30 tree sculptures. Today, they have been transplanted and are on display at Gilroy Gardens amusement park in California.

This picture is beautiful the greens at the root of the tree and the vibrant orange leaves make me think of fall at dusk. I picked this image because of its beauty but as I look at the image and the way the branches lay out it reminds me of my youth, spending all my daylight hours hanging from my neighbors tree. I think that others can admire a image like this and have it tell its own story of youth and childhood mischief hanging from tree branches out of your parents watchful eyes.
