Wild pony swim at Chincoteague Island. The Pony Swim has occurred each year since 1925. The horses swim across the shallow waters between the Assateague (MD) and Chincoteague (VA) Islands. Salt Water Cowboys" round the ponies up every year for the swim. The Fire Company keeps the herd at a level that the salt marshes where they roam can support them. Read the Novel, "Misty of Chincoteague", by Marguerite Henry. It tell all about the life of a Chincoteague pony.
