John Singer Sargent - This has always been a favorite of mine. it is such a departure from his (lovely) Edwardian ladies dressed in fabulous gowns. This painting shows movement as opposed to his standing, sitting or reclining rich women. This woman smiles with warmth rather than distant and cold beauty.
