The Glass Castle - Jeannette Walls - A riveting memoir -must read

Night by Elie Wiesel. No other book captures the horror, despair, and loss of faith wrought by the Holocaust. How anyone survived such debasement and slaughter is beyond me. Just hearing the title of this book makes me weak with sadness and fury. Elie Wiesel is a role-model that everyone of any age or race or religion should admire.

Night - Elie Wiesel This is also one of my favorite books to teach. It's about a father and son trying to survive the concentration camps during the Holocaust. My students and I wrote to the author this past school year and he actually wrote back to us!

Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt. Good book. I always thought I'd find it too depressing to read. Not so. The Glass Castle was actually much harder for me.
