Shut the front door... then...use a tap-it light to show think alouds during your read alouds. Tap the light "on" when you stop reading and discuss what the text makes you think. Helps students to "see" the difference between your reading and your thinking. Could also use to let students know when you are not available, during reading/writing conferences, etc.
Unfinished Work Tip: Worksheets no longer get lost or forgotten with this attractive solution. Give each student a magnetic clip for her desk and have her attach any unfinished work to her clip. Not only will she know where to find the paper to finish it, but it's easy to estimate how many students need to complete an assignment.
