One of my favorite books of all time. Michael Crichton is such a great writer. And extremely inspiring!

An astonishing technique for recovering and cloning dinosaur DNA has been discovered. Creatures once extinct now roam Jurassic Park, soon-to-be opened as a theme park. Until something goes wrong...and science proves a dangerous toy....

Unless your species evolved sometime after 1993 when Jurassic Park hit theaters, you're no doubt familiar with this dinosaur-bites-man disaster tale set on an island theme park gone terribly wrong. But if Speilberg's amped-up CGI creation left you longing for more scientific background and ... well, character development, check out the original Michael Crichton novel.

Childhood's End by Arthur C. Clark

The alien aesthetic of 1950s scifi artist Richard Powers evokes melting clocks, Bruegel-like landscapes, and the surrealism of Paul Klee. One look at Powers' surrealist planets and you know you're not on Tatooine any more. Powers illustrated science fiction book covers for several publishers throughout his career, but perhaps his most famous work was his 1953 cover Arthur C. Clarke's Childhood's End. You can find an even larger gallery of his work at The Powers Compendium.
