Pieterjan Gijs and Arnout Van Vaerenbergh's Church in Borgloon, Belgium

Designed in 2011 by architects Pieterjan Gijs and Arnout Van Vaerenbergh, this surrealistic folly in the Belgian city of Borgloon is composed of 100 evenly spaced layers of steel that are stacked, in the form of a nave and steeple. Inspired by local church buildings, the 30-foot-high structure was created as a longterm work of public art along a walking path.
