    The Greencastle Street Railway Company was organized with a capital of $ 50K and before the end of 1866 the line was in operation. It ran south on Jackson Street to Washington St, east on Washington to College Ave passing the largest hotel of the time, the Grand Central, east on Seminary to Bloomington St. and south via Bloomington, Depot (Main), and Maple Streets to the station of the Terre Haute and Indianapolis Railroad (the Vandalia or Pennsylvania). Two small cars were drawn by horses.
