Nellie Bly was an investigative journalist who wrote groundbreaking stories about political corruption and poverty. In 1887 she faked madness in order to report undercover from an abusive mental institution in New York City, which led to outcry and reform. She also took a trip around the world. Her jealous peers referred to her investigations as “stunt reporting”, but Nellie, of course, didn’t give a fuck about those whiny little shits.
Nellie Bly (May 5, 1864 – January 27, 1922) was the pen name of American pioneer female journalist Elizabeth Jane Cochran. She remains notable for two feats: a record-breaking trip around the world in emulation of Jules Verne's character Phileas Fogg, and an exposé in which she faked insanity to study a mental institution from within.

Elizabeth Jane Cochrane "Nellie Bly" -(1864 - 1922) - early journalist, went undercover (for 10 days) to expose neglect at a women's insane asylum, & travelled around the world trying to beat Jules Verne's "record" while another female journalist, Elizabeth Bisland travelled around the other direction. She married millionaire Robert Seaman in 1895. She invented a new milk bottle & stacking garbage can. She died at 57 from pneumonia.
Nellie Bly (1864-1922) was the pen name of American journalist Elizabeth Jane Cochrane. She was a ground-breaking reporter known for a record-breaking trip around the world in 72 days, in emulation of Jules Verne's fictional character and an exposé in which she faked insanity to study a mental institution from within. In addition to her writing, she also was an industrialist, inventor, and charity worker. She married aged 31 and had no children.
Nellie Bly, born Elizabeth Jane Cochran, was a fearless investigative journalist who was among the first to go “under cover” to report her stories. She exposed corrupt lobbyists and the inhuman ways that women prisoners were being treated. Investigating a mental asylum outside of NYC where patients suffered horrific abuse, she posed as man suffering from mental illness to gain access for 10 days. And in a time when few traveled outside of the states, she went around the world in 72 days.

If you've read Kathryn Stockett's The Help, you'll want to see her all-time favorite reads! #books #summerreading
This is from the Writer’s Digest and Stockett talks about the process of getting her book published. She tried for three and a half years and over that time she applied to many agents and received over sixty rejection letters. She talks about how many of times she wanted to give up on getting the book published and how her fortieth rejection letter made her cry. She was very determined and dedicated to get this book published and is now shocked that it was a number one best seller.

Book stores are becoming non conforming. As it's not cool to read books with your hands. The future kids will never know how great a books feels in your hands. I love books and not on a iPad etc. save the books.
Ohhh man! How I LOVE old book stores! When I was collecting those hard to find obscure books, I'd travel and visit so many of these! IT truly was a great adventure! I absolutely had no idea what i would find! And i found some true gem's. Some times, I even found what i was looking for! LOL
I love little bookshops. They have old books you will never find in a regular book shop and maybe not even online
Book store, what treasures you will find! Belki de hayaliniz, bir tozlu rafın üstünde duruyor.
The smell, atmosphere and character of an old book shop is intoxicating..❤

At 18 our convictions are hills from which we look. At 45, they are caves in which we hid in. - F. Scott Fitzgerald
F. Scott Fitzgerald-- His final years were a miserable downward spiral. The Saturday Evening Post stopped buying his stories; all that sustained him was a new little mag called Esquire, which for a paltry $250 a throw printed his fiction and journalistic pieces, including a searingly honest account of his own decline, entitled The Crack-Up.
