Thrifty decorating tip... faux crown molding. Buy 2 inexpensive thin beads of wood and paint in between. Crown Moulding!

My Way To Paint This Simple. Paint the wall first. Go ahead on up past the place you’ll be putting the molding. Paint the molding before you put it up. Totally finish it on the ground. After the molding is installed, paint the white wall area with the same paint as you used on the trim. This way you won’t have to bother with the blue tape and you’ll get a much nicer job on your trim. The piece of trim right at the ceiling is optional. It looks good both ways. There you have it… a simple alternative to crown molding!

Alternative to crown molding: quarter-round molding and thin chair rail molding with four inches of white paint on the wall in between. Genius! Perhaps a good idea to even out the dining and living room ceiling heights?

Thanks! I was thinking that too. The B-I-N from Zinsser was my best guess

I have done this many Times in my homes over the years. I have found that if you PRIME with 4 coats of Binzer, which actually goes pretty fast, You will have removed all the Texture on the wall, and the result will look Like one seamless piece of molding. Many of my Finish Carpenter guy friends, are amazed at the results, and now have adopted this in some of their re-hab properties.
