Costumes of The Ballets Russes - "Many of the Ballets Russes’ costume designers also made significant contributions to fashion design of the early 20th Century. Sonia Delaunay, famed Orphism painter and textile artist, created the graphic and provocative designs for Cleopatra (1918). The iconic costume designed for the title character was not featured in the original exhibit at the Victoria & Albert Museum, but to the delight of visitors is on display at the National Gallery of Art, on loan from Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The costume features geometric quilting, heavy beading, and mirrored inlay."

Mata Hari. “…Slowly, inertly, she settled to her knees, her head up always, and without the slightest change of expression on her face. For the fraction of a second it seemed she tottered there, on her knees, gazing directly at those who had taken her life. Then she fell backward, bending at the waist, with her legs doubled up beneath her…” Mata Hari, (7 August 1876 – 15 October 1917)
