Netsmart by Howard Rheingold - How can we use digital media so that they help us become empowered participants rather than passive consumers?
In Net Smart, cyberculture expert Howard Rheingold shows us how to use social media intelligently, humanely, and, above all, mindfully. Mindful use of digital media means thinking about what we are doing, cultivating an ongoing inner inquiry into how we want to spend our time. Rheingold outlines five fundamental digital literacies, online skills that will help us do this: attention, participation, collaboration, critical consumption of information (or "crap detection"), and network smarts.

Imperium: A Novel of Ancient Rome (Cicero, #1) A cautionary tale of orator Cicero and his struggle for power in Rome. Excellent!
A tale inspired by the writings of Tiro, Cicero's confidential secretary, traces the life of the ancient Roman orator from his beginnings as a young lawyer through his competitions with Pompey, Caesar, and Crassus in the political arena.
This historical novel makes an engaging summer (or any season) read. The words of Tiro, Cicero's confidential secretary, make ancient Rome come alive through personalities and politics that are completely fresh and modern. Robert Harris writes brilliantly.

Robert Harris' Imperium. The parallels between ancient Rome and modern US are uncanny and scary.
A book about Cicero and ancient Rome (its a narrative based on history not a history book).

To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. "Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird." Memorable line from one of the best-loved classics of all time. Through the young eyes of Scout and Jem Finch, Harper Lee explores with rich humor and unswerving honesty the irrationality of adult attitudes toward race and class in the Deep South of the 1930s.

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, published in 1960. A gripping, heart-wrenching, and wholly remarkable tale of coming-of-age in a South poisoned by virulent prejudice, it views a world of great beauty and savage inequities through the eyes of a young girl, as her father -- a crusading local lawyer -- risks everything to defend a black man unjustly accused of a terrible crime.

Just finished for my book club...HILARIOUS!!! A must quick read for anyone that appreciates her humor on the Office
It's cool now for funny celebs to write funny books, but I'm cool with that. Wanna read. (GOT IT. READ IT.)
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) - Mindy Kaling. It turns out she wrote some of my favourite episodes of The Office. Like the one where Michael steps on a Foreman Grill and Dwight gets a concussion. So funny!
I want - "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (and Other Concerns)" The Office extraordinaire Mindy Kaling’s new book is part advice column, part hilarious anecdotes. With chapters like “Don’t Peak in High School” and “Nontraumatic Things That Have Made Me Cry,” it’s at the top of editorial intern Caroline Hallemann’s wish list. “I’m looking forward to a healthy dose of Kelly Kapoor postholiday.” Available at amazon.com, $16.
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? - A light read. Funny book by that chick from The Office.
Mindy Kaling (Kelly Kapoor on The Office)'s book on my must read list

From my sis: Just discovered this author a couple weeks ago and really like her characters. This book is good, similar to Patricia Gaffney's "The Saving Graces."

The Hunger Games, Book 1 of the Hunger Games Series By Suzanne Collins MY FAVORITE BOOK SERIES EVER!!
The Hunger Games is a young adult novel written by Suzanne Collins. It is the first book in The Hunger Games trilogy.
The Hunger Games, Book 1 of the Hunger Games Series By Suzanne Collins. At the top of young adult/dystopian society fiction. Katniss is a proper heroine.
Empty Shelf Challenge 2015 Book 2. The Hunger Games, Book 1 of the Hunger Games Series By Suzanne Collins
Suzanne Collins ~ The Hunger Games Trilogy. I think these were written for young adults, but if you think reality shows are harmless....look what can happen!

Annotation: A leading specialist on social networks writes a shocking expos of the widespread misuse of our personal online data and creates a Constitution for the Web to protect us.
I know who you are and I saw what you did: social networks and the death of privacy, by Lori Andrews. "Unnerving narrative about the misuse of personal online information--without our knowledge--to track, judge and harm us in innumerable aspects of our lives....."
I Know Who You Are and I Saw What You Did: Social Networks and the Death of Privacy / Lori Andrews ~ Social networks are the defining cultural movement of our time. We can all now be reporters, alerting the world to breaking news; we can become investigators, helping the police solve crimes. Social networks have even helped to bring down governments. But they have also greatly accelerated the erosion of our privacy rights, and any one of us could become the victim at any time.
Social Networks and the Death of Privacy. might check it out.

Game of thrones Fantastic TV series. Waiting for season 2 and will definitely be reading the books
Game of thrones - If your not watching this, or reading the book series, whats wrong witcha!? ;-)
Game of thrones: I know, total sci-fi nerd BUT I own what I am. I am impressed by how closely the series follows the books. I make it a general rule to watch any movie based on the book before I read the book because of the inability of movie producers to follow even the basic story line. I love the "Game of Thrones" books and I love the series equally....just my own opinion, if you want to find out for yourself, read the books....:-D
Before I joined Conviva, I wasn't watching TV series that much. But since my company was literally working with all the content creators, I spent a lot of time catching up on all the popular TV series. I wanted to understand why viewers are engaged, why some shows are so expensive and how creating new contents all the time can be scalable. And of course, by doing that, I became fan of so many shows. Too bad I have so little time to watch all of them.
Game of thrones...have not read, but hubby & brother are obsessed. Tv series is good though.
One of the best shows ever created, based on one of the best book series written
Game of thrones...book series and HBO show....love it

Thank You for Arguing: What Aristotle, Lincoln, and Homer Simpson Can Teach Us About the Art of Persuasion [Jay Heinrichs]
Books Worth Reading, Books Movies, Books Bucket, 5 Star Books, Business Books, Ap Language, Music Books, Aristotle
This book isn't just about arguing; it's about rhetoric -- the art of persuasion. There are some good techniques you can use in debates, but the real value is in understanding the underlying principles -- logic, emotion, credibility. These ideas go beyond debating to the basic tools of effective communication. I'm going after Aristotle's "Rhetoric" next . . .
I must read this... 'Thank You for Arguing: What Aristotle, Lincoln, and Homer Simpson Can Teach Us About the Art of Persuasion'

In short, design thinking converts need into demand. It’s a human-centered approach to problem solving that helps people and organizations become more innovative and creative. Design thinking is not just applicable to so-called creative industries or people who work in the design field. This book is for creative business leaders who seek to infuse design thinking into every level of an organization, product, or service to drive new alternatives for business and society.
