"The Long Wait" (1959) In 1959-1960, against his better judgment, Jim Avati painted seven covers for reprints of Mickey Spillane novels in the Signet Books series: The Big Kill (S1700), The Long Wait (S1705), Vengeance is Mine (S1710), One Lonely Night (S1728), Kiss Me, Deadly (S1758), I, the Jury (S1775) and My Gun is Quick (S1789).
This is Condoleezza Rice's account of her time with Pres. George W. Bush as National Security Adviser and Secretary of State. It is over 700 pages. It is very detailed and outlines her participation in world affairs. It is not gossipy and she does not bad mouth current/former administrations. Worth the read.
What can I possibly say about this book? It's one of the best stories and most well-written books ever. Bradbury, as always, relied heavily on his reader's information to fill in the gaps, and usually, I find that sloppy writing, but with this--with this story--it works; like a haunting nightmare hovering on the edge of your memory. Ah, great stories and fantastic writing make me swoon :D
This book was recommended by one of my students. It's not my typical read, but I did find it difficult to put down.
