1969: Man on the moon Apollo 11 astronaut Buzz Aldrin, shown here, accompanied Armstrong for the famous walk on the moon. This iconic image is one of the few that shows Armstrong on the lunar surface - as seen in the reflection on the spacesuit's visor. The astronauts walked around on the lunar surface for about two and a half hours. (NASA)
"I was also impressed with the total desolation I saw in front of me: black sky, no stars and the horizon clearly curving away." -Buzz Aldrin on the moon. This NASA file image shows Apollo 11 U.S. astronaut Buzz Aldrin standing on the Moon, next to the Lunar Module Eagle (R), in this July 20, 1969 file photo. The plexiglass of his helmet reflects back the scene in from of him, such as the Lunar Module and Astronaut Neil Armstrong, taking his picture. Armstrong, the first man to set foot on the moon, has died at the age of 82
July 20, 1969: First Man Walks on the Moon On this day in 1969, the spaceflight Apollo 11 landed the first humans, Americans Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, on the moon. People watched worldwide as Armstrong took that momentous first step onto the moon, declaring, “This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.”
“This is one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” On July 20, 1969, the spaceflight Apollo 11 landed the first humans, Americans Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, on the moon. (photo credit: NASA). We woke up Stevie... (3 years old at the time)... to watch it on our tiny black and white TV. I wonder if he REALLY remembers???
Buzz Aldrin on the Moon: Buzz Aldrin was the second person to walk on the Moon on July 20,1969. Kennedy's goal of putting Man on the Moon was accomplished with the Apollo 11 mission when astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed their Lunar Module (LM) on the Moon on July 20, 1969 and walked on its surface while Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit in the command spacecraft, and all three landed safely on Earth on July 24.

See how these Historic Space Suits evolved to allow a successful landing on the moon!

September 16, 1994 — Twenty years ago today, astronaut Mark Lee went on a spacewalk to test the Simplified Aid for EVA Rescue (SAFER) system outside the Space Shuttle Discovery during mission STS-64. (NASA)
Don't get me wrong, but we seem to be so useless floating in space, unable to utilize anything we were born with, unless we're equipped and accompanied by artificial life supporting environments. With some of our best minds on earth, we have accomplished such great feats. When you consider the fact that our sun can and will die one day, we need to continue space exploration as a posible means of survival, even in the face of hostile environments. We are constantly being tested in our own.

Part of my bucket list - having the courage to follow through my ultimate dreams like Felix Baumgartner
Felix Baumgartner jumping from a height of 128,000 feet. He broke the sound barrier coming down and went 1.24 Mach speed (833mph). He landed safely, opening his parachute at 5200 feet. History made today October 14, 2012. #stratos #felixbaumgartner #redbullstratos
Felix Baumgartner Jumps From 71,580 Feet On March 15th, 2012, Austria’s Felix Baumgartner jumped out of a space capsule from an altitude of approximately 71,580 feet as the Red Bull Stratos project moved forward into the manned flight stage in New Mexico.

Space Jump Test, 13.6-miles above Earth. March 15, 2012, 42-year-old Felix Baumgartner, in a fully pressurized jump suit, steps-out of his specially designed Red Bull Stratos capsule; first successful test towards his world record-breaking space jump. The capsule, attached to a 100-foot wide helium balloon, took him to 71,581 feet this time; Free-fall duration: 3-minutes and 43 seconds, Max Speed: 364.4 mph (586.4 kph).

What could have gone wrong with Felix Baumgartner’s space jump? Watch this hilarious video to find out.
Felix Baumgartner Red Bull Stratos Mission 10/15/2012 Supersonic freefall/skydive from 128,097 feet(~24 miles) above Earth. The jump lasted a little over 9 minutes, half of that time was free fall. Reaching a speed of Mach 1.24(or 833.9 MPH). Amazing
Felix Baumgartner. World record for skydiving an estimated 39 kilometres (24 mi), reaching an estimated speed of 1357.64 km/h (843.6 mph), or Mach 1.25, on 14 October 2012, and became the first person to break the sound barrier without vehicular power on his descent.
The Red Bull Stratos mission carried Felix Baumgartner to an altitude of over 128,000 feet — 8,000 feet higher than planned — when the daredevil took the plunge into thin air
