Top 10 Banned Books - The Color Purple - A novel written by Alice Walker, The Color Purple depicts the life of a young black girl, Celie, who speaks about her life in letters to God.
"The Color Purple" by Alice Walker is so heartbreaking, so lyrical in its prose, and an absolutely must-read for everyone.

Nathaniel Hawthorne, High School, Books I Ve, Books Worth, Reading List, The Scarlet Letter, Kindle Book, Favorite Book, Time Favorite
The Scarlet Letter -- I kinda had this thing in High School. I was a bookaholic. I'd read 5 or 6 books a week, EXCEPT if it was on the High School "recommended reading list". So, I never read this until I got to college and no longer HAD to read it. I wish I had had Hawthorne's insight into hypocrisy of the self-righteous earlier.
The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Probably my favorite book that I read in high school. Everyone in my class hated it, and I have no idea why!! What a beautiful classic.
The Scarlet Letter is a masterpiece. Nathaniel Hawthorn posed questions about human nature, forgiveness, repentance and so much more. The Scarlet Letter is a very good example of American Romanticism and early American life, much is to be learned from this book! 4/5 stars
I love The Scarlet Letter. This is my favorite book by Nathaniel Hawthorne. I think the students would enjoy this book as well. I would want them to write about the way women were treated during that time period compared to men.
The Scarlet Letter is an 1850 romantic work of fiction in a historical setting, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. It is considered to be his magnum opus. Set in 17th century Puritan Boston during the years 1642 to 1649. It tells the story of Hester Prynne, who conceives a daughter through an adulterous affair and struggles to create a new life of repentance and dignity. Throughout the book, Hawthorne explores themes of legalism, sin, and guilt.
A Book I should have read in High School: The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne
The Scarlet Letter- one of my all time favorites.
The Diary of a Young Girl is a book of the writings from the Dutch language diary kept by Anne Frank while she was in hiding for two years with her family during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. The family was apprehended in 1944 and Anne Frank ultimately died of typhus in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. After the war, the diary was retrieved by Anne's father, Otto Frank, the only known survivor of the family.

The Diary of a Young Girl - Anne Frank. My favorite book of all time. I read mine til it fell apart.
The Diary of a Young girl is a very good and factual book. The book is the diary of jewish girl Anne frank, at the age of 13 years. In her diary Anne Frank recorded vivid impressions of her experiences during this period. By turns thoughtful, moving, and amusing, her account offers a fascinating commentary on human courage and frailty and a compelling self-portrait of a sensitive and spirited young woman whose promise was tragically cut short.
Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl - Anne Frank Challenged at the Culpeper County, Va. schools (2010). Initially, it was reported that officials decided to stop assigning the book due to complaints that it includes sexual material & homosexual themes. The edition published on the 50th anniversary of Frank’s death won't be used in the future despite the fact the school system did not follow its own policy for complaints. From "It was the best of times. It was the worst of times......" to "It is a far far better thing I do...." this has been one of my favorite books. I read it several times as a teenager and into my 20's.
A little rough at the start, but it is quick to make up for the excitement and intrigue of the second half. There is no greater love than one who dies for his friends. Really such a touching book to ever read. LOVE SO MUCH!!!
"A Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens is a shining example of a book I did not remotely enjoy. I couldn't get through the first few chapters. This was assigned my senior year of high school when I was taking an AP Literature and Composition course. I only enjoy reading books I have somewhat of an interest in, and unfortunately the vocabulary and plot just did not spark my curiosity. If I recall correctly, many of my peers did not enjoy it either.

Best part of the school day! Teacher reading aloud was a very close second. The rest of the day didn't matter.
I got in trouble for reading once I got my work done - by an English teacher of all things. Some of you know who I'm talking about.

Worth Reading, Books Worth, Books I Ve, Reading List, Favorite Books, Blood Truman
This is on my top five favorite books of all time. Truman Capote created the "nonfiction novel" genre with it. It's incomparable. A must, must, must read classic.
In Cold Blood **True crime novel about a family murdered in rural Kansas by two drifters. Capote hung around till suspects were captured, the trial, and execution. He was obsessed by this ...
In Cold Blood - Truman Capote. Possibly the most famous true crime book ever written, and for good reason. Capote's writing is almost too lovely for his subject matter.
Probably the best crime documentary ever, and the most frieghtening. I don't know if that is because I was so young and it was one of my first true crime books, so I was not yet de-sensitized, or if truely is.
In Cold Blood. Truman Capote. The first true crime novel to hit #1.

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. I 'stole' (read as: checked out and never returned then Paid the fee so I could graduate") from our high school library. Read it while getting my WASP tan on between my junior and senior year. Fell in love with the Bronte sisters. Can read this again and again.
Wuthering Heights: "My greatest thought in living is Heathcliff. If all else perished, and he remained, I should still continue to be." Powerful, moving, dark at times, but still romantic - one of my all-time favorite books! It's a classic.
