Gregory Peck and Mary Badham during the filming of To Kill a Mockingbird in Monroeville, Alabama, 1961. -I LOVE this book and re-read it virtually every year (love the movie as well).
Gregory Peck. Carolyn: Filming To Kill a Mockingbird. We all wanted him for a father. What a great dad. Great book & movie. In the 1960's, people's priorities and values were shifting. We not only questioned but challenged and pressured those whose ways were hurtful, disrespectful, hypocritical and wrong.

Gregory Peck (Atticus Finch) and Mary Badham (Scout) on the set of To Kill A Mockingbird, 1962. The pair, who played father and daughter in the film, actually remained close and kept in contact for the rest of Gregory Peck’s life. He always called her Scout.
Gregory Peck and Mary Badham (Atticus and Scout) — rehearsing lines for the movie 'To Kill a Mockingbird'. The novel and movie, are based loosely on Harper Lee's family and neighbors as well as events that happened in her hometown of Monroeville, Alabama, in 1936 when she was 10 years old.
one of my favourite books and films - Amazing photo. 1962, American actors Gregory Peck (1916 - 2003) and Mary Badham review the script for the film, 'To Kill a Mockingbird' directed by Robert Mulligan, on the set of the film. #56 Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld -- Life at a New England boarding school -- didn't love it, didn't hate it.
Prep: A Novel by Curtis Sittenfeld (448 p.) - Good. Took me forever to finish so not exactly a page turner. Glad I read it anyway.
Prep: A Novel: Curtis Sittenfeld. I really like this writer's storytelling and characters. While it's more explicit than I would prefer (particularly in the second half of the book), the book as a while was still a good read. It brought back lots of high school memories. (December 2013)
Prep by Curtis Sittenfield Curtis Sittenfeld’s debut novel, Prep, is an insightful, achingly funny coming-of-age story as well as a brilliant dissection of class, race, and gender in a hothouse of adolescent angst and ambition.
Prep: A Novel: Curtis Sittenfeld- read this summer and was interested enough to keep reading, but did not find the main character in any way like able.
This book makes me want to punch the main character, but it was worth reading.

The Help By Kathryn Stockett. I know everyone's into this book right now, but that doesn't change the fact that it's worth reading.
The Help by Kathryn Stockett | Great book and movie.. Really makes you think about the prejudices in society nowadays
The Help by Kathryn Stockett. Even if you've seen the movie... read the book. It is wonderful and more alive than watching real people play it out on the screen.
The Help by Kathryn Stockett This book is so powerful and I love it and the movie. I recommend it to *everyone* (+16)
The Help by Kathryn Stockett From page two, the voice in this book had me captivated. I couldn't put it down. The characters wrap themselves around your finger and won't let go. Transported to the 1950's South, you will cry, shout, be so angry you could spit, and laugh out loud as you are allowed to follow the lives of these unforgettable people. This is one of my all time favorite books. Love it, go get it, READ it!
The Help by Kathryn Stockett Skeeter returns home to Mississippi from college in 1962 and begins to write stories about the African-American women that are found working in white households, which includes Aibileen, who grieves for the loss of her son while caring for her seventeenth white child, and Minny, Aibileen's sassy friend, the hired cook for a secretive woman who is new to town... Saw the movie and it was awesome!

32 Books That Will Actually Change Your Life. I've read some of the books on this list, and while maybe one actually "changed my life" I at the very least enjoyed them all. This seems like a pretty good readings list.
Me Talk Pretty One Day | 32 Books That Will Actually Change Your Life - David Sedaris is hilarious, period. But in Me Talk Pretty One Day he manages to weave all of his funny and true stories with the idea that humans have a problem with communication. His strange experiences with people will make you question how you communicate on a daily basis.

J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy novel about a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins whose adventure starts when wizard Gandalf and a company of dwarves arrive on his doorstep is definitely a book worth reading.
the hobbit---I love this book. This along with the Lord of the Rings trilology, my all time favorite book(s). JRR Tolkien ROCKS!!! I was in a play in HS but didn't read it till college.
The Hobbit, and all the Lord of the Rings books! Began reading these at 9, and I've read them who knows how many times since. LOVE Tolkien. Previous pinner wrote
The Hobbit, and all the Lord of the Rings books! My uncle read these to us when I was a child, and I have read them, listened to them on tapes, and watched all the movies many times since. It is my second home. Thank you, Mr. Tolkien.
The Hobbit is one of my all time favorite books included in the Lord of the Rings series. I have read it many times.
LOVE The Hobbit, and all the Lord of the Rings books! LOVE Tolkien... read these all a number of times
The Hobbit, and all the Lord of the Rings books! Discovered these in high school. LOVE Tolkien.
The Hobbit or There and Back Again-- by JRR Tolkien. When the movie came out I became interested in the tale. It is a fun children's book but doesn't have the depth of language or symbolism that Lord of the Rings has. While it is enjoyable, this is more a side dish than the real main course. It is apparent where Tolkien developed his ideas for Lord of the Rings from this book. It was also interesting that Gollum played such a small part here, but was so richly developed in the trillogy.
Dark and twisted :) Michele

Gone Girl- a thriller. About a couple in an unhppy marriage and the wife's sudden disappearance. This book starts slow but becomes a real page turner
*Gone Girl - one reviewer's comments: Gillian Flynn has handed you a martini made with battery acid instead of vermouth and you think it's the greatest martini you've ever had. It is disturbing and compelling and intriguing. An amazing thriller (so much better than the movie)!

"Gone Girl" by Gillian Flynn. Thriller. Review: "The premise could be torn from the news: When a young wife goes missing, her lying husband quickly falls under suspicion. But what really happened? This snappy, edge-of-your-seat thriller goes far deeper into the marriage than any headline-making story could take you."
Such a page turner, good, fast read with an ending that led to a lot book club debate.

Into The Wild By Jon Krakauer - Great book, but do yourself a favor and don't see the movie. . . . Before or after reading
Into the Wild- I feel like I'm going in reverse on this one. I watched the movie and now I'm reading the book. I'm interested in seeing the differences between the two. - A number of fairly critical details are missing in the movie. All of Jon Krakauer's experiences were deleted from the movie, but are present in the book. I closed the book with tears.
Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer... Hamish Hooper's top pick and another inspiring story. De Anza Springs Resort provided the Nudists for this movie. I have a lot of friends you can see in the movie.

This is the one that started it all! I love all the Harry Potter books. Mind you, I struggled with the epic proportions of the last 3 books. There was definitely a need for an editor that can say NO to Rowling when she went off on a tangent. Yes, I have all 7 of them, 1st/1sts.
...Amazon.com: Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (Book 1) (9780590353427): J.K. Rowling, Mary GrandPr
I loved the Harry Potter books but admittedly found them more and more difficult as they got darker. The first one was a delight, i was relieved when the last one was over. :)
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, by J.K. Rowling. My favorite book in the series. Everything's all new and magical.
Harry Potter Book 1! I'm rereading the HP series before our trip to Florida and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter!
"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" by J K Rowling. 1st book in the Harry Potter series.
My love of Harry Potter was my first validation, through research, of reading books over and over and not being considered crazy! At least by others who reread books. I learned that a book worth reading once, if you are lucky, is worth rereading (and many times). I find not only the books, but the audio books and the movies and incredible cross-media event for "the story". Each has its own interpretation and offers its own unique perspective. Pretty cool!
For me, the entire Harry Potter series consists of classics. Each time I re-read them, I find something new to fall in love with. At the same time, I am re-enforcing the values I have learned from J.K. Rowling since I was young-- loyalty, bravery, adventure, and intelligence. "Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone" was the first serious book I read when I was 6, and it was then that I learned how enjoyable reading could be. For our generation, Harry Potter is a true literary classic.
