    Homemade Pure Vanilla Extract. Ingredients: approx. ¼ lb. Madagascar vanilla beans; 2 big bottles vodka or rum; 24 4-oz glass bottles. Cut beans in half crosswise and then lengthwise. Place 6 pieces in each 4-oz glass bottle. Fill with vodka or rum. Cover tightly; store in cool, dark place for 2 to 3 months (or longer). Get beans and bottles from Amazon.com.
