Dress ca. 1926

Woman’s "indispensable" (or pocket), English, circa 1799. Made of silk satin with silk thread embroidery, silk ribbon and foil bullion appliqué, sequins, and silk and metallic lace. Pockets were once separate from garments, like small purses that were worn under the clothing and attached to the body at the waist. A slit in the skirt would allow access to the pocket.
