“Morchella crassipes” by carlespoveda. Wonderful edible species.....the one species most Americans who hunt...will collect.
Geoglossum (Earth Tongue) ~ highly distinctive fungi; the ridged/leathery fruiting body above the stem does indeed resemble a tongue. The head is reddish-brown or purplish-black, and it's not separated from the non-fertile stem (stipe). Rare in central, northern & western Europe; found in parts of Asia & North America in old grasslands & heathlands, associated with sandy soils. Their habitats are under threat from the destruction of agricultural expansion and the afforestation of grasslands.
