49 Skills You Need to Survive Homeownership . The ceiling fan light illustration is the first one we should have read before tackling our old house. I wouldn't have been perched on a step stool changing a light bulb while the whole thing decided to come crashing down and automatically pulled on the fan blades while I was trying to hold it up! Luckily my husband came home soon after and turned the electricity to it off from the breaker panel in our basement to save me from any further peril.

"I think [the corbels] make all the difference. For only sixty-four dollars I was able to create a real designer look. Once installed, I gave the backsplash and corbels two coats of paint to give it a seamless finish. I trimmed every edge [of the cabinets with beadboard & molding]." - The Empty Nest via Remodelaholic
