Math Assessment Sticks - A quick and easy way to check student's understanding of various math topics. Lots of different sticks to chose from. This would be a fun little assessment that students could even design their own sticks that they would use. This could go along with the marker board system, but instead the students hold up popsicle sticks with numerical values or terms.

Math Assessment Sticks - A quick and easy way to check student's understanding of various math topics. Lots of different sticks to chose from. I don't think I'll pay $4 for these, but I love the idea and can make them myself.
Math Assessment Sticks are a simple way for teachers to gauge their students' understanding of a particular math lesson. The sticks will have various math-related answers on them depending on the lesson content and the students will hold up their stick to display their answer. The teacher can then quickly look at the sticks and see what students need further instruction based on their answer.https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Math-Assessment-Sticks-762426

Write words clearly and well-spaced-out on index cards. Jax and I chose common words that he already knows how to spell to begin with, and then I got the idea that I’d like to decorate them with stickers. So I rummaged through our sticker bin and picked out fifteen or so that are common words, like fish, car, dog. Then I wrote the alphabet on 26 clothespins.

I love the inclusion of student writing folders, writing suggestions / focus charts, and the extra resources. The kit includes writing suggestions for a variety of formats - make a list, write in my writing journal, respond to reading, write my own stories, letter writing, poetry journal, etc. This could be implemented without purchasing the package.

What Should Students Do While the Teacher Works with a Small Group? By Kelly Harmon Students need to read and write for authentic reasons in order to increase proficiency. The Daily 5 is a framework developed by Gail Boushey and Joan Moser for organizing independent-level activities that students can do for purposeful practice of strategies and skills. To begin, teachers meet with students and develop anchor charts that explicitly describe what students and teachers are doing in each of the 5 choices areas. Students are guided to make choices for independent work time that will help them achieve learning goals. Students practice one of the 5 choices while the teacher observes and coaches appropriate independent behavior. After 4-5 weeks, teachers begin meeting with guided reading or do 1:1 conferences while the other children are engaged in one of the 5 choices. The 5 activity choices are: Read to self Read with a partner Work on Writing Work on Words Listen to Reading Teachers may also choose to change the 5 choices to meet the learning goals of the class. For example, Listen to Reading could be changed to Work on Research. Students are given time throughout the literacy block to work on 2-5 areas of the Daily 5 each day. About 15-30 minutes is given between focus lessons so that students can read, write, and work on words. Older students will make fewer choices per day and have longer periods of time to read and write. The classes that I have observed using this framework are showing substantial increases in student achievement in reading and writing. This framework is simple and easy to implement. Students love it and teachers are not over-burdened with having to constantly come up with new activities for literacy centers.

I think this would be great to display in a classroom. Especially for middle school and high school kids. It would serve as a reminder to be kind and thoughtful with their words. I am not sure where you could buys this so you may have to make it yourself which could be time consuming and expensive once you buy all of the material! #synvansweete @Synthia Van Sweete
