Most definitely! We tend to have certain expectations set in our minds about how things are supposed to be. And when we don't meet those expectations, we start getting down on ourselves. Set attainable goals - challenging but no so out there that you'll never reach them. One small step at a time!
Some people use how they "feel" as an excuse to be rude, cruel, insensitive and even abusive. Walk away from these people. Taking anger or hatred out on another person is abusive. If someone is rude or cruel, their actions toward you are THEIR responsibility.
