"Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari", directed by Robert Wiene, 1920 As a carpenter there is a huge feeling of relief when I see angles like these. I think it's supposed to induce fear by being off kilter but like the gruesome violence in Giallo these sets send me into a docile place. I have seen this movie many times in and out of sleep only waking at points of terror.

House of Flying Daggers. Another top favorite. Love the music, dancing and the awesome fight scenes.

Cover illustration for Gustav Meyrink's 'The Golem' (1914) - very eerie black and white sketch, also makes me think of "The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari"
