The lives of a sixteen-year-old Nigerian orphan and a well-off British woman collide in this page-turning #1 New York Times bestseller and book club favorite from Chris Cleave. We don’t want to tell you too much about this book. It is a truly special story and we don’t want to spoil it. Nevertheless, you need to know something, so we will just say this: It is extremely funny, but the African beach scene is horrific. The story starts there, but the book doesn’t. And it’s what happens afterward that is most important. Once you have read it, you’ll want to tell everyone about it. When you do, please don’t tell them what happens either. The magic is in how it unfolds.

October 2012 Book Club Choice. What a great selection to read during an election year... This book brought up great discussion about corporate power and political control. We agreed this is one of Stephen King's (or Richard Bachman's) best books, although it's NOTHING like the film. Don't read the forward if you don't want to know the ending! We recommend.
The year is 2025. The Running Man is America's favorite television game show. Ben Richards is the program's latest contestant and the Hunters' latest target in a rigged game of death. Available from WVDELI.

It is 2025 & reality TV has progressed to the point where people are willing to wager their lives in exchange for a chance at enormous wealth. Ben Richards is desperate & needs money to treat his daughter's illness. His last chance is entering a game show called The Running Man where the objective is to elude police & specially trained trackers for a month. The reward is a cool billion dollars. The catch is that everyone else on the planet is watching & willing to turn him in for a reward.
I love all Stephen King's books.

Based mostly on historical fact, author Nancy Horan fills in the unknown dialog between acclaimed architect Frank Lloyd Wright and his publicly shunned love interest Mamah Cheney
Loving Frank: A Novel by Nancy Horan. An historical fiction novel based on true events about the romance that develops between architect Frank Lloyd Wright and Mamah Borthwick, both married. As they both struggle with their decision to be together it leads to a shocking conclusion.
This is well researched historical fiction. It tells the story of a little known chapter in the life of architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Loving Frank: A Novel by Nancy Horan, http://www.amazon.com/dp/0345495004/ref=cm_sw_r_pi_dp_L59oqb1D40E90

Weirder things have happened. Today a larger yellow mailer was found in my mailbox when I got home from work. I was expecting a purchase from eBay, and I guess I still am, because the contents were not baseball cards. Odd. A book? I don't remember ordering a book. The packing invoice shows that my mother is the brains behind this new yellow mailer bomb! Kaboom! She got me! I thanked my mom over the phone for the book and she said that the book mentioned Peoria, my hometown, somewhere in the first couple of chapters. A baseball book that mentions Peoria? This will be the third one I've read in that category! Nice! I'm currently in the middle of "Out of My League" by Dirk Hayhurst, but I think "The Art of Fielding" will be next on my summer reading list. I plan on going through at least four baseball books during the next coming months because I'm a little backlogged from Christmas. I wish "Book It" didn't have an age cut-off, because I would clean up on personal pan pizzas from Pizza Hut this summer with all of my intended reading!

We Need To Talk About Kevin - Lionel Shriver
This week’s featured book: We Need To Talk About Kevin Author: Lionel Shriver Overview: Eva never really wanted to be a mother-and certainly not the mother of the unlovable boy who murdered seven of his fellow high school students, a cafeteria worker, and a much-adored teacher who tried to befriend him, all two days before his sixteenth birthday. Now, two years later, it is time for her to come to terms with marriage, career, family, parenthood, and Kevin's horrific rampage in a series of startlingly direct correspondences with her estranged husband, Franklyn. Uneasy with the sacrifices and social demotion of motherhood from the start, Eva fears that her alarming dislike for her own son may be responsible for driving him so nihilistically off the rails. My Comments: This is one of the most thought-provoking and hauntingly disturbing books I’ve ever read. It’s a book that stays with you long after you’re done with it. The big question you’ll ask yourself as the story progresses is “Are people born evil or are they made that way?” It’s the age-old debate of nature vs. nurture. Was Kevin born this way, or was he a product of his environment? Should his mother take the blame for how he turned out, or was he predisposed to his antisocial behaviour? And if he was predisposed, was there anything she could have done to prevent or modify it? Read the story and see what conclusion you come up with.
