For the apartment of a gallerist in a Manhattan building designed by John Pawson, MAC II’s Mica Ertegun opted for a neutral palette that would not upstage the art on display. In the living room, a Martin Kippenberger painting overlooks a Poliform sofa covered in an F. J. Hakimian cotton, a vintage marble-and-chrome cocktail table, and a Charlotte Perriand stool.
Fireplaces are often forgotten—save for a few accessories here and there—but a little creativity can transform a humdrum hearth into the centerpiece of a room. "This firebox had ugly travertine tiles and no mantel," says Los Angeles decorator Emily LaMarque. "We replaced the tiles with an iridescent glass mosaic blend and added a custom-designed mantel inspired by vintage Victorian styles."
