"Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" (2011). A nine-year-old amateur inventor, Francophile, and pacifist searches New York City for the lock that matches a mysterious key left behind by his father, who died in the World Trade Center on 9/11. A wonderful film, with a great performance by Thomas Horn, who plays the boy.
A strangely inconsistent tone throughout the movie kept this from being as good as I thought it would be. When comparing it to "similar" (moderate budget, mainstream indie) movies I would say it was better than "The Kids Are Alright" but not as good as "Up In the Air" or "Young Adult"
