The Secret World of Arrietty by Studio Ghibli. One of the movies I would love to watch over and over again!

  • Enfantillages...

The central scene in My Neighbor Totoro--all told with no dialogue, just visuals and sounds. This is illustration and not photography, but note the larger character half-shaded vs. the bright illumination on the second (smaller) character. At this point in the story, Totoro is still something of a mystery.

Personally, this was a weird movie... especially when dubbed in English. However, my dog Sosuke is named after the cute boy in it... I am in love with this print!

Howl's Moving Castle - My favorite Hayao Miyazaki film. Is based off the book with the same name, being the same yet different, in a good way. Even the author was impressed. I love the magic Miyazaki can bring, he really is the Japanese Disney, isn't he?

Spirited away. its so strange that i adore this cartoon, cause i really dont like anime movies...

One more masterpiece by Hayao Miyazaki...

Based loosely on The Borrowers...we're going to see this Studio Ghibli and Miyazaki

Hayao Miyazaki is a fantastic director of anime films who's female characters are complex and often eschew traditional gender roles. Almost all of his movies have a strong female lead as well as a supporting cast that includes many females.

Some of Hayao Miyazaki's characters. My daughter Boo shared all of Ponyo's sleeping mannerisms. She now draws amazing anime characters inspired by Hayao Miyazaki's films.

If you haven't seen a Hayao Miyazaki film, go and treat yourself today. Sooo good.

Miyazaki's Spirited Away. This scene reminds me of the long train rides I got used to taking from DC to NY from '02 to '08. Music: "The Sixth Station" from Joe Hisaishi's 'Hisaishi Meets Miyazaki Films'
