Reaction is automatic, response is chosen. You can change your painful reactions to life into peaceful responses - from low level dislike, frustration and judgement through to full blown anger... it is possible to transmute all of this into peaceful observation and conscious response. Here's the deal - fundamentally this isn't actually about being a better person, about personal growth, nor about making it better for people around you, nor about spiritually evolving (which are all just flow on consequences). Rather it is just simply that living in unconscious automatic reaction to life all the time is unpleasant and draining, and it sucks to live that way! So, practising peaceful response to life is actually about YOU feeling better right now and in the next moment, and in the next moment, because you allow yourself not to be sucked into the vortex of reactivity to what goes on around you, and thus reclaiming the ability to enjoy all the small moments of your life irrespective of circumstances. For example: - Someone says something hateful, you choose peaceful response (sometimes that is no response at all) - You are stuck in traffic and late for an appointment, you choose peaceful response (regardless of whether you make the appointment or there are flow on issues because of your lateness) - Someone you love gets sick and there is uncertainty about what will happen, you choose peaceful response - You burn the dinner, stub your toe, and run out of time to do the one thing you wanted to do before going to bed, and you choose peaceful response to each moment. YOU WILL EITHER HAVE PEACE FROM CHOSEN RESPONSE, or you will live your life in automatic reaction to externality and suffer as a result. I don't know about you, but I don't intend to kiss my life goodbye by giving my power away to automatic reactions and unconscious living. By some miracle, we were all born, and our hearts beat and we have this life to enjoy. Not a second to be given nor a breath to be wasted on reacting to what you cannot change and flushing precious energy down the toilet in low vibrational thoughts, feelings and behavior when you could redirect all of that to conscious peaceful response. From that position of inner peace you have ALL your precious energy available to make clear decisions, choose new actions and create better outcomes for the next coming moment. You allow yourself the conditions from which to be a high performer, the space from which to let your soul shine out (rather than your ego roar). CHOOSE. With love, Bernadette x
