Dot Game (Responsive Classroom)
Icebreaker Game, Dots Ice, Dots Game, Dots Grouping, School Ideas, Game Icebreaker
Dot Game! Ice Breaker I place a colored dot on their head with their eyes closed and then with no talking they must figure out which group they're in. Such fun to see the non verbal hints they give each other :)
This is cute, but I would have them do an interview or something once they were in their group. Dot Game - place colored dot on everyone's head and then without verbal communication have them find the others with the same color dot.
Dot Game. When everyone has their dot, the objective is that they have to find their Dot Group WITHOUT TALKING. It’s super funny to see the nonverbal cues that come out here! Once a group is complete they have to come find me. Then we discuss this game as group, talk about what our strategies, what was difficult, what worked, what didn’t, etc….
Dot game. Each child (or adult-as an icebreaker) gets a colored dot. Then, without talking, they need to find their other colors of group.
Dot Game - place colored dot on everyone's head and then without verbal communication have them find the others with the same color dot.
The Dot Game. Depending on your class size, choose 4-5 colors, and use 4-5 dots of each color to form groups of 4-5 kids with the same color dot on their head.

Great Expectations and Responsive Classroom ideas for beginning-of-the-year community building
Who Stole the Cookies from the Cookie Jar? author Unknown - Math activity - Use subtraction stories based on the song. Use the cookie jar and paper cookies. I told subtraction stories as the children took cookies from the jar. For example: "There were 6 cookies in the jar. John took 4 cookies. How many are left?" You can use Cookie Crisp Cereal to model subtraction problems on a Cookie Jar Mat. As you tell subtraction stories, the children eat the cookies!

Critical thinking questions (Bloom's Taxonomy)
This website is full of Bloom's Resources
We all want our students to be critical thinkers but when it comes to defining what it is that critical thinking is all about and what strategies to use to cultivate it in classroom things get a little bit muddier.Scholars across various disciplines define it differently. For Daniel Willingham critical thinking is "seeing both sides of an issue", Robert Wessberg views it as " an ability to use reason to move beyond the acquisition of facts to uncover deep meaning" and linda Elder sees it as a "self-guided, self-disciplined thinking which attempts to reason at the highest level of quality in a fair-minded way". At its essence, critical thinking does require an elevated form of reasoning that is not usually found in other forms of thinking and for teachers to raise critical thinkers they definitely need to be well versed with the inner workings of this type of thinking. To this end, Edtech and Mlearning has this resourceful section full of materials and resources to help teachers integrate the ethos of critical thinking in their instructional pedagogy. | Cool School Ideas
