I use these Whole Brain Teaching attention getters on a daily basis with my ELL students. These attention getters are a great way to improve your classroom management. I usually pick one or two to teach the class at the beginning of the year. Then every month or every few weeks, I introduce a new attention getter, which my students can't wait for!!
Think sheet. Have the student fill this out when they have broken a classroom rule or hurt the feelings of another student, have the student reflect on their behavior and then fix the situation. I like this because it lets them think of alternatives rather than just apologizing and moving on.
Each time a student BLURTS out loud without raising hand they have to take one down. Last person to have all 3 gets rewarded!--I've seen this implemented in a first grade classroom with a lot of success!
Used these this year. These are the best- most clearly stated class rules I've ever had. We added "Be safe." to the bottom of it. "Let others learn." has solved a lot of other mini issues that always come up.
