The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens

The Huntington exhibition Oct 17, 2015 - Apr 05, 2016 A World of Strangers: Crowds in American Art : Torkel Korling, Crowded Beach, 1929, gelatin silver print, 13 7/16 × 10 7/16.

Joe Deal’s photographs from his Beach Cities Series are a description of the order of man’s incursion and inclusion in the landscape. Sparsely peopled, the views are about structure and humankind’s conceptual and physical relationship to it. The non judgmental topographical view of this often geometric societal construct reveals the nature of humankind and often details the intent of the species. (via Ocean View:)
