Group work trick: Each student writes their own answer on a post-it, they bring the answers together and write a group answer in the center. Upper grades- someday #groupwork
Four corners post-its, one from each student, then they create the best answer in the center. Great group activity.
Four corners post-its, one from each student, then they create the best answer in the center. They could do something where they work on a math problem and then decide which is the best or correct approach and why. Would be great for small group discussions over classroom novels or short stories.
This is a good idea to make sure students are all adding their own ideas and participating in group work. Students write their ideas on sticky notes and then answer as a group in the middle. An alternate to think pair share.
Hand out stickies in several colors. Kids write answer. Find other students with same color sticky. Create a best answer from all ideas and write in middle. Runde's Room: Five For Friday - Test Prep and Angry Birds

One of the daunting challenges facing each (new) teacher centres around getting students engaged in classroom learning. In a digitally focused age where focus gives way to multitasking, attention deficit becomes the current currency. I have already featured some of the techniques to increase students engagement in previous posts, today I am sharing with you 7 more tips from Reading...

This list of 7 Ways to Increase Student Engagement in the Classroom I found to be very helpful. These simple tips are very easy to incorporate into the classroom and engagement in the classroom is essential to foster so that you know your students are absorbing and retaining information. One of the most prominent ideas from this list that I will try hard to put into effect is the 5-7 seconds of "think time." This gives all students an equal opportunity to process and hopefully think and respond.
Why do we want learners of all ages to be engaged during instruction? Because involved students learn more efficiently and are more successful at remembering what they learned. In addition, students who are engaged in learning are more likely to become passionate about learning in general. Student engagement is one byproduct of effective instruction that has major …

Runde's Room: Passion Projects in the Classroom: In a nutshell, Genius Hour is something that happens in your classroom for one hour a week. During this time, students research and complete an inquiry project based on their passions - really digging deep into what motivates them.
Passion Projects in the Classroom- LOVE this idea!! Perhaps every Friday enrichment period in 5th grade is dedicated to GENIUS hour? These projects would NOT be graded- just a way to allow the students to learn more about what they are passionate about
