“The last time I saw Little Edie was the week before Christmas, when she invited us out to take pictures. Prepared as though for her stage debut, garbed in black net and flashy reds and heavily perfumed, she swept out the door in grand theatrical fashion.” -Gail Sheehy, “The Secret of Grey Gardens”.
1975 - After the big clean up - the yellow bedroom where most of the action in the Maysles' documentary took place. The two ate, lived, and slept here. To Edie’s left you can see the hot plate on her bed where she made her meals. Big Edie shows herself as a beautiful debutante in the picture.
Edie was a prolific poet and even her recently published diary, written when she was 11, shows she had an inherent gift for arranging the written word. I admire Edie's devotion to using poetry writing as her creative outlet and I find her verses inspiring and beautiful. #styleicon #modcloth
