October 1, 1890: Yosemite Established as National Park On this day in 1890, President Benjamin Harrison signed a bill into law creating Yosemite National Park. This law decreed that about 1,500 square miles of public land in the California Sierra Nevada would be preserved for the public trust.
Some of the best mountain hiking in the world is to be found in Glacier National Park. The park has nearly 700 miles of hiking trails zigzagging in every direction across one million acres filled with mountains, lakes, rivers, forests, and tons of wildlife.
View of Half Dome, Yosemite I have hiked this trail with friends a number of times. It starts at Glacier Point and goes 8 miles past 3 waterfalls, down into the valley. The most memorable end to the hike involved a bottle of chilled, hard cider. Nothing had ever tasted so good before, nor has since!
